Awareness seminar organized by the University of Punjab’s (PU) Sports Department on "Empowering Women through Awareness regarding Harassment at the Workplace and in Sports.
On 07.05.2024 Ms. Uzma Chughtai, a former District and Sessions Judge and the current Regional Head, Lahore of the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) was invited as a guest at a seminar organized by the University of Punjab’s (PU) Sports Department on "Empowering Women through Awareness regarding Harassment at the Workplace and in Sports." Joining Ms. Chughtai on the panel were Professor Dr. Farah Kanwal, a member of the Harassment Committee at PU; and Mr. Zubair Ahmad Butt, Director Sports at PU. Ms. Eishaal Fatima, Legal Intern FOSPAH elaborated on the forum’s mandate, procedures, and the available powers in dealing with harassment cases. She also highlighted the recent amendments to the Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace Act, 2010 wherein the scope of harassment was broadened to include both sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination. In her address Miss Chughtai emphasized the pivotal role of women in every field, including sports, and underscored the importance of mutual respect between genders. She urged students to always respect the boundaries set forth by the law and encouraged them to step forward without fear if they experience harassment.
