FOSPAH and CPLC Sindh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
Karachi, 31st May 2024: The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) Sindh handled 327 harassment-related complaints in 2023 alone, highlighting the need for collaboration between the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment (FOSPAH) and CPLC to guide complainants to the appropriate forum. Recognizing this necessity, FOSPAH and CPLC Sindh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Governor House, Sindh. This partnership aims to ensure effective referrals and comprehensive support for victims of workplace harassment. Ms. Fauzia Viqar, the Federal Ombudsperson for Protection Against Harassment of Women at the Workplace, Government of Pakistan, elaborated on strategies to combat workplace harassment effectively. She emphasized the critical need for legal awareness and the enforcement of stringent measures, including the mandatory establishment of inquiry committees and the posting of the code of conduct within organizations. During the visit, Ms. Viqar received a comprehensive briefing from Mr. Zubair Habib, Chief of CPLC Sindh, on the operations of CPLC and its crucial role in fostering collaboration between law enforcement and the community. The ceremony concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and acknowledgments of the key roles played by both organizations. The ceremony was attended by officials from both FOSPAH and CPLC, including Mr. Muhammad Aliyan, Assistant Law Officer FOSPAH (Sindh), Mr. Adil A. Chapra, Deputy Chief of CPLC Sindh, and Ms. Naajia Qadir, Head of the Women Cell, CPLC Sindh.
