What’s holding women back from owning what’s rightfully theirs?

At a Panel Discussion on Property Rights and Ownership at NUML, we tackled this critical question with an inspiring lineup of speakers: Ms. Mahrukh Aziz, Legal Advisor at FOSPAH Mr. Sabookh Syed, and Barrister Zafarullah, moderated by FOSPAH’s Law Officer, Ms. Mehr Jamy.

Here’s what we explored:

  • Awareness Matters: Education and media must step up to combat prejudices and focus on real societal issues, not just sensationalism.
  • Representation Gap: Women's voices are growing louder, but real representation in councils remains scarce. It’s time for PEMRA to be held accountable.
  • Breaking Traditions: Deep-rooted cultural norms still view women as property, denying them ownership rights. Legal reforms are non-negotiable.
  • A Better Future: We advocated for integrating property rights into marriage contracts, simplifying legal processes, and recognizing women as equals in every sense.

Together, we can break barriers, dismantle outdated norms, and build a society where every woman knows, claims, and owns her rights.
